RKF turned me on to these guys last year, and in fact released one of their albums back in the mists of time.
Crap, Ornette died.
I never got to see him.
It’s a testament to HOW MUCH material he released and HOW DIFFERENT it all was from each other that I have yet to see any 2 tributes post the same piece of music (or even the same ALBUM).
I been working at the Kremlin with a 2-headed dog.
I bought this on CD in the late 90’s based on cover art alone. I had no idea who Roky Erickson was, but I was not eat all disappointed by the music - well-written workingman’s rock, lyrically slathered with MADNESS AND NIGHTMARES.
Likely my favorite 80’s shred guitar record, definitely my favorite record on Mike Varney’s label.
Saw these guys live, touring for the follow-up record. The difference between the 2 guitarists could not have been clearer - Marty Friedman looked like he was constantly playing at the very edge of his technical ability, Jason Becker looked relaxed and calm. Just a NATURAL.
Jason’s would have been someone we spoke of in the same breath (for good or ill) as Satrina, Vai, and Malmsteen, if his body hadn’t quit on him like it did. Still haven’t been able to bring myself to watch the documentary. Living with ALS is a terrifying thought.
Clearly to hunge to ever come to America, but good to see them still playing with the form.
